Supporting the teams community

Northstar Team Foundation

Since 2013 the Northstar Team Foundation has proudly supported the members, coaches and families of the Northstar Ski & Snowboard Team program. Our shared mission is to “produce gold medal athletes in life and sport,” by using a team environment and mental skills as the tools for developing life long skills like collaboration, leadership, and confidence.

Since our inception, we have raised over $2Million to support the 4,000 athletes and coaches that have been a part of the Ski & Snowboard Team program with all fundraising efforts going directly to the resources needed to support the coaches and athletes. These efforts have resulted in the acquisition of the only dedicated training arena in all of Tahoe, year round support for athletes and a career pipeline for coaching staff and scholarships that unlock the finical barriers that exist in the sport.

Through donations, volunteer hours, and fundraising events, our vision for the next 10 years is to continue to build a Foundation that inspires and enables every athlete and coach by providing the resources needed to be gold medal athletes in life and sport.

Jenah MacGrain

Executive Director

Jenah grew up in Marin County with a longtime love for the mountains. After competing as a Division 1 swimmer at UC Davis, she moved to Truckee, where she spent seven years coaching the Truckee Tahoe Swim Team and serving in multiple roles at Northstar, eventually earning full PSIA certification and joining the Western Region Education Staff. She met her husband at Northstar, later moved to Mammoth where she led the U12 ski program and the Mammoth Lakes Swim Team, and welcomed their son, Lachlan, in 2023. She also completed her USSS Level 300 certification. After a brief move to Deer Valley, her family returned to Tahoe, and former ED Amy reached out about the opportunity to lead the Foundation. Jenah is excited to support Northstar Teams in a new way and bring her broad coaching background back to the community that shaped her.

Jenah also loves swimming, hiking, biking, and exploring with Lachlan.

Tobi Adamolekun

Board Chair

Tobi, his wife Temi, and their son Rayo, split their time between San Francisco and the mountains, with travel and adventure as a constant part of life. Tobi first connected with the Northstar community when Rayo discovered his love for snowboarding and joined the All Mountain program. Watching that passion grow inspired Tobi to get involved and support the foundation’s mission of helping young athletes and coaches thrive.

He is passionate about snowboarding, soccer, and running, and sees sport as a powerful way to build confidence, create community, and inspire personal growth.

One day, he dreams of driving from Cairo to Cape Town.

Kristin Renaudin

Treasurer

Kristin and her husband, Justin, live in Marin with their three kids, Mackenzie, Zoe, and Jackson, along with two bernadoodles who love the mountains as much as the rest of the family. They spend as much time as possible in Truckee and the Lake Tahoe area, where skiing, water sports, travel, and spirited card or board games are all part of family life. The Renaudins joined the Northstar community in 2018 when their children entered the All Mountain team. Since then, each one has found their own path within the program: a junior coach, a full-time U17 freestyle competitor, and a part-time U14 alpine racer.

Aaron, his wife Nina, and their son Aksel are all about adventure. They love skiing, biking, waterskiing, and even a little football thrown in for good measure. If it involves speed or snow, Aaron is probably in.

Laurie Hanna Carrade

When she’s not skiing or wake surfing with her family; Chloe, Michelle, and Marty, Laurie is probably planning their next adventure. The Carrades love to travel and spend time outdoors, whether it’s chasing powder or perfecting their turns on the lake. She  dreams of heli skiing with her girls in the future.

Laurie first got involved with the Northstar community when her girls joined the All-Mountain program at age five, and after helping former director Amy organize the first fundraiser, she’s been all-in ever since.

Katie Markov

Board Member

Katie, her husband George, and their three kids, share a love for skiing and spending time outdoors together.

Their connection to Northstar began during a family visit when they noticed a group of kids in bright red jackets racing down the mountain and laughing together over lunch under Zephyr. Intrigued, they learned more from friends and soon enrolled their oldest daughter in the All Mountain program. A few years later, all three of their kids had joined the Teams and found a deep love for the sport and the community that surrounds it.

Jason Freidrichs

Board Member

Sean and his family, wife Ingrid and children Siena, Annabelle, and Calvin, split their time between San Francisco and Truckee, fueled by a shared passion for skiing, cycling, and mountain adventure.

Sean’s Northstar roots run deep, beginning forty years ago when his father first put him on skis at age three. That legacy came full circle when Sean taught his own children to ski on those same slopes. Today, all three of his children compete for the Northstar Alpine Team, where they lean into the grit and discipline required by competitive racing.

When not on the snow, Sean is at home on a bike, whether road, gravel, or mountain. His adventure bucket list is long, and he dreams of one day skiing down Mt. Shasta and riding The Death Ride.
